Here is a go for the jugular set of complimentary questions: "And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?" This comes from Mark 8:36-37, in the Bible. It speaks of that uneasy feeling of dissonance that is caused by mixed intentions. Long ago I was a sales representative for a large RESP company and while I believe in the product and purchased the savings plan for my son and continue to pay for the plan, I had a hard time selling it because I couldn't help seeing dollar signs over children's heads, I had an inability to separate out the massive benefits of the planned education funds from my need to make money from the commissions I would earn when signing a family up. Coaching might have helped and yet, I know now that my heart wasn't in this work and when money is the focus, there is a feeling of soul selling, a quick fix of cash and then the need to move on to next quick fix. Needless to say, I didn't last long in this position. The money monster mixed intentions would have me, you, work against moral fibre, go for the cash and forget the humans involved, like an addict with a fix, one is never enough and next is always waiting to be found and used up. I am still in sales, we all are, as proponents of what we believe in, know to be true and good, not just for me, not just for you, for others. Did you sell your soul today for mere cash? Is it causing a slow and steady bleed? Money monsters like guts and blood, are yours spilling out? Money is our friend, an ally in life, how we make it is the tricky part. Slay one of your monsters today and unmix your intentions, who are YOU as you go about your business?
